About this blog

This blog is about my journey to learn German. It started this year (2014) when I was trying to think of New Years resolutions. I always like to set positive resolutions - things to start doing rather than things to stop. And we were planning to go to Germany on holiday, and I'd enjoyed it at school, and I'd always vaguely meant to brush up on the few odd phrases I remembered. So I thought I'd try learning German.

I didn't want it to turn into a chore - so I didn't  enrol on any classes, or buy sets of CDs or books. To be honest I also didn't want to put lots of money into a venture I'd probably get bored with in a couple of months.  I just thought I'd have a go using free online tools and websites and see how it went.

What I didn't expect to find was an unbridled passion for the language and an enthusiasm I haven't had for learning in a very long time! My New Years resolution quickly turned into a new obsession- and as I was boring my friends going on about it I thought I'd start a blog to document my progress.

This blog is simply a record of my thoughts and discoveries- it will probably contain more questions than answers! If I post something that I later find out is wrong I'll correct it but for actual facts or help with German look elsewhere! For the story of an enthusiastic amateur you're in the right place.

What does the title mean?

Eimer= bucket(s), begeisterung=enthusiasm , so it means " buckets of enthusiasm". Now I don't know if Germans measure their enthusiasm in buckets. It seems unlikely - it seems a bit of an exuberant phrase for german... and i haven't found it in any dictionaries so far. So it probably doesn't make a lot of sense as German, but i wanted a title that conveyed that I have buckets of enthusiasm, even though I have barely a puddle of ability :)
